Great speech from Obama. I won't bother opining further.
But I wanted to chime in on the music. That horrendous country tune that began when he concluded his speech seemed a little out of character. Then, as the talking heads began their chattering, "Born In The USA" started playing. Could that be the most misunderstood song in history?

I think the popularity of that song is subtle sign about the ignorance and arrogance of mainstream american culture. The idea of a subtext is unthinkable to these people. That would require a) reading and b) thinking on a higher plain (although said 'plain' may seem like more of a mound of dirt to those of us who read).
I relayed your comments to my wife and she laughed and said whoever thought that song was appropriate should be looking for a new job today.It stems from the need to beat the point into every ones head that every candidate out there is cool cuz he uses a rock theme and also patriotic cuz his song says USA very loudly, never mind that 3 stanzas in, the guy is unemployed and in prison- really a dreadful decision. Neil Young's Rockin in t he free world would be just as bad. In Obama's case, Neil Diamond's "Coming to America", would only solidify the belief in some that he's not a real American. Somebody has to commission a song that is catchy AND positive

no, they didn't edit out the verses. my roommate and i were watching and heard "KILL THE YELLOW MAN" and had our WTF moment.
