Wow. No metion of how the 'victim' is the real thief? Why not give Obama huge lips and a can of grape soda if we're going that route?

I'm a journalist in Asheville and was not surprised in the least to see this blatantly racist cartoon in our only daily paper. Welcome to the bible belt.

Wow. WOW. wow. WOWOWOWOWOW.

Wow.

Was this actually published? Or is it just some wannabe posting to the AAEC site?

The problem here is that there is no possible parallel between white working-class victims of assault and white CEOs. I mean the cap in salaries intended by President Obama hardly can affect working-class wages. Actually wages in America, Europe or Asia are capped by bosses on productivity grounds. This is the real thief on white, black, yellow, brown or even green people.

That's one of the problems

What's shocking to me is that you can actually put in a request to buy the original artwork. How much could this possibly go for?

The real fun will come when David Cohen starts suing white supremacist groups for reprinting his cartoon without permission.

It's pretty shocking. Though I'm willing to give the cartoonist the benefit of the doubt and assume he got overly excited by the parallel between the use of the word "cap" in both phrases but then turned in his first draft without thinking (at all, it would seem). If you look at his other editorial cartoons, he doesn't seem thoughtless. This does though.

I don't know if he's thoughtless or just clueless. His cartoon of Michael Phelps has him wearing a coke spoon around his neck along with all of his medals. You know, because all illegal drugs are the same.

I'm going to buck the trend here and say that it's outrageous, but it's meant to be outrageous.

Let's face it--there are plenty of people who feel this way. Only by externalizing the concept can we honestly see it for what it is and try to move on from there.

(I'm almost definitely giving the author too much credit, but I try to reinterpret anything truly bad as something much better.)
