New Toon: A Modest Proposal

I had planned to do a Brokeback Mountain comic, but events led me to pitching it to a magazine for a full page strip, which seems like it will seee the light of day before the Oscars. So I cheated a bit and slightly reworked a comic I did back in the day when Idiot Box just started. I have always wanted to redraw it with the current porportions of the strip so it could be printed, so here you have it.

Only recently descovered Idiot Box on MyComicsPage. You rock. My favorite frame - not to say that any one frame can really be taken out of context - of "A modest proposal" is "Bobby, I need you to stick your arm..." I mean, it just hits the nail on the head. Not only are we all as innocently cruel as this sweet American soccer mom - and as guilty - we also are, gradually, becoming as accepting of blatant absurdity. But I, for one, will not complain if cartoonists become "reporters" rather than "satirists". After all, where ELSE am I going to get any real news? CNN? Give me a break. Gary Trudeau, Ted Rall, Tom Tomorrow... yes, even Bill Griffith... and now Matt Bors. These are the only people who give me any serious analysis of the news. I only read the front page when I want a good cry. The arts section when I want to get angry about the state of world politics. And the science section when I want to laugh out loud.
