It's good to see the artist's attention to detail, as all television studios make use of the "box with lines on it" model of video camera these days.
Leaving aside the fact that the visual metaphor is laughably terrible... it doesn't even look like a tear. It looks like a loogie, or some other kind of syrup-like bodily fluid.

Considering the way the media treated the wars, I would argue that the discharge is more from, er, excitement.
