I don't necessarily believe in a Keynesian solution myself but this cartoon really does make the author look like a class A moron. What is he actually arguing? It looks like he's arguing that government intervention is somehow keeping people unemployed... by detaining them in being employed on government contracts? Or... what....? I mean, the first one depicts actual construction... and Obama conferring with a Democrat about jobs. Um...?

Of course, the point of 'economic stimulus' is that it covers quite a range of activities. My dream stimulus plan (for any liberal democracy, not the US alone) would involve investments in public transport, science and technology, and an end to large scale 'corporate welfare' subsidies in favour of 'enterprise zones' which give tax breaks to companies opening in deprived areas. Of course, this is partly what Obama is doing anyway.

Here, however, the cartoonist seems to think that business is being obstructed by the administration. Possibly true; but that's the case for all administrations. The Republican right are not friends to small business any more than the Democrats are. I'm in England so perhaps not wholly qualified to comment but small business here is not helped one jot whether Halliburton, etc. get their kickbacks or not. Good infrastructure and a decent education system, however, actually do have a tangible result.

There's a much easier explanation, Matt P.: Chuck Asay is a sub-moran. Trying to delve into his mind is like sticking your hand in an unflushed toilet and trying to figure out what the previous user had for dessert last night.

Yeah, but in the real world most of us, if we are being paid to give our opinions in editorial cartoon form, would come up with something that makes sense. Anything less would be insulting the readership and the people paying us for our work. You might talk shit amongst your friends. You wouldn't talk shit on the clock to a vast public audience.

You would think that. But then, we are talking about a world where Bill Kristol is still on TV.

Chuck Asay's toons are always the worst. Poor execution on both ends (art and concept).

Oh Godless liberals! Asshat's cartoons come to him straight from the Almighty himself! Bow before The Word as transcribed by His faithful douche, Chuck Asshat and realize the error in your ways. Repent! Repent! [insert angelic chorus here]

I think I figured it out: There's a donkey guy with "union" on his shirt so that means all the workers are union, and the gov't. is only giving jobs to unions - rather than everyone else. And we all know unions are hotbeds for socialism and corruption!

I was sort of hoping for a stimulus package involving construction of high-speed rail, greased with the blood of the unborn.
