Representative Patrick J. Kennedy of Rhode Island said on Sunday that the Roman Catholic bishop of Providence had instructed him to refrain from receiving communion because of his stance on abortion.Another letter was sent to everyone who has ever attended his church. “In light of the church’s clear teachings on war, materialism, lying, supporting war and helping the sick and poor," it read, "it is inappropriate for a single person to show up for communion ever again."

“In light of the church’s clear teaching, and your consistent actions,” the letter said, “I believe it is inappropriate for you to be receiving holy communion and I now ask respectfully that you refrain from doing so.”

I wonder what "clear teachings on war" the letter writer is talking about. If voice could be given to the millions of victims of Catholic-sponsored conquest, including not just Arabs in the "holy" land but Jews and Muslims in Spain and Indians in Mexico and Peru, one might hear some indication regarding whether the one true church is pro-war or anti-war.
I made that up.
Sorry, I'm somewhat irony-deficient these days.
Requesting that he not to eat the complimentary snack cakes -- that's IT?!!! Back in the day, the REAL Catholic Church would have burned his heretical ass at the stake. Oh, how the mighty have fallen!
