The big difference is a matter of choice. If folks want to post pics of their genitals on Facebook or wherever, that's their business. Personally, I don't care if a TSA employee sees my junk; I get the better end of the deal, really. But other people are more squeamish. It doesn't seem rational to invade someone's privacy on the highly unlikely chance they might have explosives on them. The failure regarding PantyBomber was with the intelligence community, not the TSA.

To get widespread acceptance of body scanners, TSA needs to have a "Post picture to Facebook/MySpace/Flickr" button after leaving.
