This whole Retardgate shit is, well, retarded.
People totally ignore that terms like moron and idiot originally referred to developmentally disabled people, but generally no longer do. The same thing has happened with "retard"; I don't know a single person with a shred of humanity who refers to the developmentally disabled as "retarded", though most use "retard" interchangeably with "fool", "shithead" and "Teabagger".
Maybe it's generational? I am old enough to remember people referring to people with developmental disabilities as "retarded." Then turning around and mocking slow-witted people for "riding the short bus" and being "helmet-headed."
And within the last decade.
